    Result

Results appear here after you select “Extract text”.

    What it does

Text is read from the PDF’s content with pdf.js and reassembled into lines. If a PDF is a scan, it contains pictures of text rather than text; the tool tells you when that seems to be the case.

    How to use it

    1. Choose a PDF.
    2. Extract the text.
    3. Copy it or download a .txt file.

    Example

The example generates a small sample file in your browser and runs the tool on it. Select Try an example above to see it.

    When it helps

    • Quoting from reports.
    • Feeding documents into other tools.
    • Searching long PDFs.

    Questions

    Why is the result empty?

The PDF is probably scanned. Convert a page to an image and use Image to Text (OCR).

    Is the layout preserved?

Reading order and line breaks are kept; tables and columns become plain lines.
