What it does

Query string values with spaces, ampersands or non-Latin characters must be percent encoded. Use component mode for a single parameter value and full-URL mode when you want to keep the URL structure (slashes, ? and &) intact.

How to use it

  1. Choose the mode.
  2. Paste your text or URL.
  3. Copy the converted value.

Example

The example fills in realistic values and runs the tool. Select Try an example above to see it.

When it helps

  • Building query strings by hand.
  • Reading encoded redirect or callback URLs in logs.
  • Checking how a form value will be transmitted.

Questions

What is the difference between the two encode modes?

Component mode (encodeURIComponent) also encodes / ? & = and #, which is right for a single value. Full URL mode (encodeURI) leaves those characters so the address still works.

Why does decoding turn + into a space?

HTML forms encode spaces as +, so the decoder treats + as a space, which matches how servers read form data.
